Instance-level evidence can be valuable without becoming intrusive. Purpose, minimisation and access controls set the boundary.
Begin with purpose
Write down the decision the review supports before collecting or opening trace data. A narrow purpose guides sampling, retention and who needs access. Curiosity alone is not a sufficient reason to inspect individual behaviour.
Minimise by design
Mask typed content, exclude sensitive screens, shorten retention and prefer event traces where visual replay adds little. Reviewers should see only what is necessary for the agreed question.
Make governance visible
Document access, sampling and deletion rules. Revisit consent language with appropriate legal advice and ensure product teams know how to report a concern. Responsible analysis is an operating practice, not a paragraph in a policy.
A useful next step: choose one active product question and write down the behavioural instance that would provide meaningful evidence. If its boundaries are unclear, resolve that before adding another chart.
